I do believe that he loves football. But his first love is the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not up to us - other believers in Jesus - to try and get him to change his method of witnessing, just because it's not the way that we do it. I do want to remind you that your life cannot save anyone. Sure, "let your light shine before men so that they might see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." But know that in order for anyone to be saved, they must hear and respond to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Someway, somehow, a person must hear the truth in order to be able to respond to it. Please continue to pray for Tim and not criticize him. The Lord may even put it on your heart to imitate him and take a bolder more open stand for Jesus Christ yourself!
